DIY Halloween Trampoline Costumes: Springfree Trampoline

Do you love Halloween as much as we do? Halloween is almost here and this season offers a chance to get creative with decorative projects around the house. Besides the obvious, why not go above and beyond by making a decoration out of your Springfree trampoline. Here are some of our ideas that you can use this Halloween.

Trampoline Ghost

  • 2 large white flat sheets
  • 1 package white pipe cleaners
  • Black duct tape
  • Scissors
  1. Take a corner of the sheet and bunch together about 1 inch of fabric. Twist the center of the pipe cleaner around it
  2. Thread the pipe cleaner through the enclosure net, around the enclosure rod to the right of the trampoline door, and twist to secure.
  3. Repeat Step 1 & 2 above each enclosure rod
  4. Using the 2nd sheet complete steps 1-3 moving right around the trampoline
  5. Take the bottom corners of the sheets, bunch together about 1 inch of fabric and twist the center of the pipe cleaner around it.
  6. Pull the sheet tight and wrap the pipe cleaner around the frame of the trampoline.
  7. Using the black duct tape create a ghost face and stick it to the white sheet. Be sure to press firmly to make sure it is stuck. Also for a cool affect at night place a lamp in the center of the trampoline so your ghost will glow!

Make it a creative night with pumpkin pals

  • Foam pumpkins
  • Pumpkin carving kits
  • Pumpkin decorating kits
  • All-purpose glue

Make some festive pumpkin pals to join inside your tent with you. For a reasonable place, go to your local value store and purchase foam pumpkins. To give these pals a little more personality purchase materials decorating kits. Allow your imagination to go free with all the possible characters you and your family can make.

Make some wings to fly around with

  • 1 1/2 yard black fabric
  • 6 inches of 1/8 inch elastic (any color)
  • Headband
  • Thick black fabric
  • Hot glue
  1. Fold 2 yards of black fabric in half and cut inverted scallops on the diagonal
  2. Cut 2 (3-inch) sections of elastic and loop them
  3. Sew each loop onto the ends of the bat wings using a straight stitch and go back and forth a few times to secure it

Check out some more decoration ideas here!

We hope you enjoyed some of the spooky ideas to use this Halloween. Whether you choose some of our ideas or come up with your own have fun this festival season.

Trick or Treat Safety with the Southlake Community

Halloween is just around the corner and so are all those monsters and ghouls! To make sure your little monsters stay safe in our Southlake community, here are a few tips on trick or treat safety.

Plan Your Route

Whether you’re extremely familiar with the Southlake community or not, it’s always a good idea to plan your route before heading out for all the goodies. You can plan your route to be just around your house, or maybe you’re going to get in the car and drive to the neighborhood that has houses that look like they’re straight out of Halloweentown. Regardless of where you’re trick or treating, it’s best to plan your route.

Keep Masks Up

Masks may be a fun, extra piece of your kid’s costume, but when you’re going house to house, it’s best to either rest the mask on their head or simply leave it at home. The mask may complete their costume, but those eye holes will severely limit their peripheral vision, which can be extremely dangerous when crossing the street or simply not bumping into other little monsters on the side walk.

Make Sure You’re Visible

While Halloween may be a time when we dress in dark and scary costumes, you still want to make sure that you can be seen. Halloween is a great holiday, but it can also be a time when accidents spike. To make sure that you’re visible, add reflective tape to your child’s costume and carry a flashlight. While the Southlake community is normally a very safe place for pedestrians, you can never be too safe.

Check Your Child’s Candy

Last up on our list in trick or treat safety 101. You should ALWAYS check your child’s candy. It’s sad that we’re in a society where you have to do it, but it’s a very easy and doesn’t take that much time. Regardless of whether you got your candy at a church’s fall festival, a shopping center’s trunk or treat or by the old fashioned house to house approach, you should always check your child’s candy!

We hope you have a great Halloween in our Southlake community and that you use these trick or treat safety tips to make it as safe as it is fun.

Fall Wines with Coal Vines Pizza

When it comes to fall wines, there are just so many great ones out there that it can be hard to know which ones to try. That’s why Coal Vines Pizza has paired with Shops of Southlake to bring you this list of great fall wines.

2013 Fontanafredda Langhe Nebbiolo

Starting off our list, this red wine is an exceptional wine for early fall. With a fruity complexity and depth, you’ll be surprised at how truly light this amazing wine is. While we chose to highlight the 2013 bottling because of its classic floral rosy notes coupled with tart cherry and a bit of spice, most bottlings of this Nebbiolo will be exquisite.

2014 Borsao Campo de Borja Garnacha

While the Borsao Campo de Borja Garnacha isn’t as light as most red wines, it drinks easy, especially when slightly chilled. The tannins on this fall wine is modest and wasn’t aged in an oak barrel, which means this soft, medium-bodied wine goes down smooth with a cherry-bright fruit flavor.

2014 Cave de Lugny Macon-Lugny “Les Charmes”

So those first two fall wines may have been great red wines, this wine from Macon-Lugny is an exception white burgundy wine. Fresh and citrusy with a wisp of sweetness over notes of apricot and stone fruit, it’s balanced out by a racy little bit of spice and refreshing acidity. It’s the perfect wine to have at the end of a long fall day.

For more great fall wines and delicious pasta, which is the best thing to eat with wine, come to Coal Vines Pizza and Wine Bar at the Shops of Southlake! We have dozens and dozens of exceptional wines from around the world.

LensCrafters Southlake: How to Protect Your Children’s Eyes

Eye safety –it’s something we all remember taking about in science class. But, how many of us think about our eye safety, let alone the safety of our children’s eyes? That’s why today, LensCrafters Southlake at the Shops of Southlake are sharing what they know about children eye protection.

Main Causes of Eye Injuries in Children

Any parent knows that all it takes is one second for your child to get into something they aren’t supposed to or to get hurt. However, if you know what the primary causes of eye injuries in children, then you can take the proper precautions to ensure your child’s eye safety at home.

  • Toys – avoid toys that have projectiles like darts or pellets
  • Falls – whether it’s from a bed, against furniture, on stairs or tripping over toys
  • Everyday Items – work and garden tools, knives and forks, pens and pencils
  • Household products – cleaning supplies, detergents, paints, glues
  • Dog Attacks – most common for children 4 years and younger
  • Leisure Time Activities – sports and simply playing with other children

Children Eye Protection

While there isn’t much you can do as a parent about the majority of eye safety risks other than trying to make sure they aren’t there, you can’t have your child wear protective goggles all day, every day. However, there are certain things you can do in terms of children eye protection. Making sure that your child has the proper gear for sports like football, basketball, baseball and hockey.

Bring Your Children to LensCrafters Southlake

If you aren’t sure about when you should bring your child in for an eye exam, LensCrafters Southlake recommends that children should have a dilated eye exam at the age of 5 or 6. That way you can make sure their eyes are ready for school and more coordinated and organized activities.
