LensCrafters Southlake: How to Protect Your Children’s Eyes

Eye safety –it’s something we all remember taking about in science class. But, how many of us think about our eye safety, let alone the safety of our children’s eyes? That’s why today, LensCrafters Southlake at the Shops of Southlake are sharing what they know about children eye protection.

Main Causes of Eye Injuries in Children

Any parent knows that all it takes is one second for your child to get into something they aren’t supposed to or to get hurt. However, if you know what the primary causes of eye injuries in children, then you can take the proper precautions to ensure your child’s eye safety at home.

  • Toys – avoid toys that have projectiles like darts or pellets
  • Falls – whether it’s from a bed, against furniture, on stairs or tripping over toys
  • Everyday Items – work and garden tools, knives and forks, pens and pencils
  • Household products – cleaning supplies, detergents, paints, glues
  • Dog Attacks – most common for children 4 years and younger
  • Leisure Time Activities – sports and simply playing with other children

Children Eye Protection

While there isn’t much you can do as a parent about the majority of eye safety risks other than trying to make sure they aren’t there, you can’t have your child wear protective goggles all day, every day. However, there are certain things you can do in terms of children eye protection. Making sure that your child has the proper gear for sports like football, basketball, baseball and hockey.

Bring Your Children to LensCrafters Southlake

If you aren’t sure about when you should bring your child in for an eye exam, LensCrafters Southlake recommends that children should have a dilated eye exam at the age of 5 or 6. That way you can make sure their eyes are ready for school and more coordinated and organized activities.

Fall Trampoline Maintenance: Springfree Southlake

Who doesn’t love bouncing the day away on a trampoline with your kiddos? While spring and summer are ideal seasons for trampoline fun, the fall and winter can get a little chilly. These upcoming seasons can also be a little harsh on a trampoline if it isn’t properly taken care of. That’s why today, Springfree Southlake is sharing a few trampoline tips about fall trampoline maintenance.

Check for Any Damages

First and foremost, after a long summer of play, you’ll want to make sure to inspect your trampoline to make sure there aren’t any damages that should be addressed. Check to make sure there aren’t any holes in the FlexiNet enclosure or the SoftEdge mat. Make sure to also thoroughly look at the frame to catch any possible rust spots and inspect the mat rods to make sure there aren’t any that are cracking or in danger of snapping.

Prevent Debris from Gathering on Trampoline

There are a few options for how you can prevent a lot of debris from collecting on the top of your trampoline. When the leaves start to fall, you can simply sweep off all the leaves, or you could get an all-weather cover from Springfree Southlake. While in Texas, it’s rare for us to get immense amounts of snow, but it’s better to be safe than sorry and get the cover, which can help protect the mat from being damaged by the weather.

If You Plan on Using it During Fall/ Winter

Now, if you plan on still using your trampoline during these upcoming seasons, you’ll want to make sure that it stays free of debris and that the enclosure is still in good working order.

If you don’t have a trampoline, then you’re really missing out! Perfect for playing with the whole family, Springfree Trampoline at the Shops of Southlake has revolutionary trampolines that are much safer than the other trampolines that use unsafe springs and weaker bounce mats.
